Latisha Coleman, professionally known as Tish, is a
3-dimensional mixed-media artist and freelance graphic designer based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Her work explores the intersections of African and African American culture, identity, heritage, and personal expression through an unconventional blend of sculpture, painting, and mixed media.
Several years ago, Tish reconnected with her passion for creating art that authentically reflects her experiences, influences, and cultural roots. Inspired by the strength and spirit of her family—whom she credits as powerful examples of sacrifice, perseverance, faith, and the importance of family—she began developing an artistic language that celebrates individuality while honoring collective history.
Working with an eclectic range of materials, including human hair extensions, African-print fabrics, hair jewelry, recycled materials, molding paste, and found objects, Tish transforms traditional two-dimensional surfaces into richly textured, three-dimensional compositions. Her distinctive use of hair as an artistic medium is particularly significant, exploring its cultural symbolism, historical connections, and role in expressions of identity and self-representation.
Her work is an ongoing exploration of depth, texture, and storytelling, inviting viewers to engage with art beyond the canvas. Through bold compositions and intricate details, she celebrates the beauty, resilience, and complexity of Black culture while creating space for conversations surrounding heritage, history, and representation.
Tish's artistic journey continues to expand through exhibitions, commissions, and private collections across the United States. Her career highlights include being featured in The Shade Room, receiving ArtPOP billboard recognition, and achieving a notable milestone with the sale of her highest-priced original artwork for $14,000. Through her continued growth and evolving body of work, she remains committed to creating pieces that inspire connection, evoke reflection, and celebrate the culture, individuality, and stories that deserve to be seen, remembered, and honored.
